Emotion: behaviour with 3 components: subjective thought/experience, accompanying patterns of neural activity & physical arousal, observable behavioural expression. Tags/ highlights the stimulus to receive extra processing later during perception. Amygdala: medial temporal lobes- fires when we perceive emotionally arousing stimuli (esp. fear- relevant images & sounds) Autonomic nervous system: made up of sympathetic nervous system (speeds up) & parasympathetic nervous system (slows down) More threatening emotional stimuli increased activity in movement planning brain regions & spinal cord. Frontal lobe: decides if response is correct or not: receives information from amygdala & sensory information. Decides stimulus is threatening utilizes more energetic resources & runs away. Decides stimulus isn"t threatening decreases emotional responses. James-lange theory of emotion: physiological reactions to stimuli occur first, and dictate our emotional experience stimuli perception & physiological response brain decides (with behaviour & stimuli) that you feel fear.
