Document Summary
(1) test-retest reliability: whether scores on a given measure of behaviour are consistent across test sessions. (2) alternate-forms reliability: whether different forms of the same test produce the same results. Retesting may indicate improvement based on practice (i. e. they"ve done it before) (3) when observers have to score a behaviour or response. More than one person must do the rating >> inter-rater reliability = raters agree on measurements. Ideally, it would be best to study and entire population = the group that researchers want to generalize about. Can take form of responding based on social desirability = participants respond in ways that increase the chances that they"ll be viewed favourably. One way to get rid of this problem is to create additional manipulation in which the researchers give diff. groups of participants different expectations of the results. If the groups differ when performing the same task, then some form of demand characteristic might be in uencing performance.
