Document Summary
Objectivity: assumes that certain facts about the world can be observed and tested independently from the individual who describes them. (i. e. , the scientists) Subjective: people"s knowledge of the event is shaped by their beliefs, expectations, experiences, and even their mood. A scienti c, objective approach to answering questions differs greatly from a subjective one: five characteristics of quality scienti c research. Variable: the object, concept, or event being measured. Any method used by a researcher to measure a variable needs to include carefully de ned terms. Operation de nitions: statements that describe the procedures or operations and speci c measures that are used to record observations. (i. e. , depression could be operationally de ned as a score of 21 or higher on the beck depression inventory ) Spatial reasoning: the ability to look at objects and mentally manipulate them. Search through the existing research literature before you make any decisions.
