Chapter 16: social behaviour: social psychology, branch of psychology concerned with the way individual"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by others. Person perception: forming impressions of others: when you are interacting with people, you are engaged in person perception, process of forming impressions of others. Friendly: people with positive characteristics were expected to. More successful in their chosen careers: cognitive schemas, people tend to categorize one another even though every individual is unique. Individuals use schemas to organize the world around them: social schemas. Organized clusters of ideas about categories of social events and people: dates, picnics, committee meetings, family reunions. Jocks: wimps, individuals depend on social schemas to help them efficiently process and store information they gather from interacting with others, stereotypes, widely held beliefs that people have certain characteristics because of their membership in a particular group. Based on: sex, age, membership in ethnic or occupational groups, common gender stereotype. Women are emotional, submissive, illogical and passive.
