Document Summary
Ignore 90% of things in environment: interpretation influenced by many factors including genetics and environment, we change as we accumulate new knowledge. Changes the way we view the world: also plays a role into our illusions and fears, thresholds, amount of energy is takes for us to know there"s been a change in the environment, ex. Ability to see a candle light from far away in pitch darkness. Absolute threshold ability to be able to see the light or not: sensory receptors are tuned to a particular form of energy. Auditory receptors in the ear code for sound pressure changes not for light: sensory systems require a minimum amount of energy for activation- absolute threshold. Just noticeable difference: minimum difference in stimulation that is just noticeable. Increase volume of music in the car but you still hear the volume the same as it was before: takes time for you to realize the volume has been raised higher.
