Information appeal to people through two routes: Central route to persuasion: occurs when people pay close attention to the content of a message, evaluate the evidence presented, and examine the logic of the arguments. We people actually pay attention to the message. Attitudes of belief change occurs through this route tend to be long lasting. Peripheral route to persuasion: persuasion will depend upon other feature that are not directly related to the content of the message. E. g. the attractiveness of the person delivering the message. Temparory shift in opinions; not long lasting. Making the message elf-relevant motivate people to care and pay attention. Construal-level theory: describes how information affects us differently depending on our psychological distance from the information. Info that is specific, personal feels closer to us. Information that is more general feels less personal.
