Drive biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed such as food and water. When drive is satisfied, reward centres in our brain are activated makes our behaviour more likely to happen again (eating pizza in the future) Motivation is essential to survival as it contributes to homeostasis (body"s ability to maintain internal states such as temp) Motivation is not only influenced by current needs (thirst) but also anticipation for future needs (allostasis) Hypothalamus is influenced by hormones that are released in response to the energy needs of the body ; it detects changes in level of sugars and hormones involved in energy. Glucose (sugar that serves as primary energy source for the brain/body) Specialized neurons called glucostats detect glucoses levels in the fluid outside of the cell.
