Memory: the process of retaining, retrieving, and using information about stimuli, images, events, ideas, and skills after the original information is no longer present. Active any time past experience affects cognition or behaviour. Sensory memory: information from the senses, stored in sensory memory just until it can be transferred and processed in short-term / working memory. Short-term / working memory: information that stays in our memory for brief periods. Long-term memory: stores information for long periods of time. Procedural memories: memories of skills (involving muscle memory) Semantic memory: memories of facts (dates, names of objects) Structural features of the model- the different types of memories. Controlled processes: dynamic ways of controlling the different types of memories, that may differ b/w different tasks: rehearsal: act of repeating a stimulus over and over (ex. saying a phone number over & over to remember it) Encoding: the process of transferring information from short term long term memory.
