Chapter 9: the world of health care: places, procedures, and people. Nora heard her fathers breathing and knew he needed attention. Had cold and breathing deteriorated rapidly in 24 hours plus he has disorientation. Doctors and nurses dealing with injuries and overdoses. Most people don"t seek care every time a symptom arises. Some keep going no matter what and others adopt patient role the instant they are faced with minor ailment. Some pay more attention to internal state and will notice a symptom. Mood, personality traits and stress levels in uence response to symptoms- in bad mood we notice every discomfort even minor. Some studies report women are more sensitive to internal state while others report opposite. Women will seek health care more frequently than men. Elderly complain about physical symptoms and seek care more frequently. Tendency for symptoms to increase as one ages due to decrease cognitive performance.
