Perception: the process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to the environment. The perceiver: impressions of a target: experience, motivational state, and emotional state all influence a persons, perceptual defence tendency for the perceptual system to defend the perceiver against unpleasant emotions. The target: ambiguous targets are susceptible to interpretation and addition, target provides information but can not always be seen clearly. The situation: every situation has context which can affect what one perceives, situation can add information about the target. Primary and recency effects: both last and have constancy. Reliance on central traits: personal characteristics of a target person that are of particular interest to a perceiver, depends on the perceiver"s interest and the situation, e. g. attractive people are perceived as good. Implicit personality theories: personal theories that people have about which personality characteristics go together, e. g. hardworking people tend to be honest.
