Employee benefits: indirect financial payments given to employees. A federal program intended to provide temporary financial assistance interruption to their work through no fault of their own. To receive benefits an employee must first have worked a minimum number of hours during a minimum number of weeks called a qualifying period. Supplemental unemployment benefit (sub): an agreement between an employer and the employees for a plan that enables employees who are eligible for ei benefits to receive additional benefits from a sub fund created by the employer. A lump sum equal to an employee"s pay for the notice period provided to employees who cease working immediately. Severance pay: employees only in ontario and the federal jurisdiction may be eligible for severance pay in addition to pay in lieu of notice in certain termination situations. Maternity leave is provided in every jurisdiction (17 or 18 weeks in each jurisdiction)
