Theory of unconscious thought: conscious thought is thought with atenion, unconscious thought is thought without atenion, some decisions may be enhanced by unconscious thought. Biological rhythms periodic luctuaions in physiological funcioning: means we do have biological clocks . Melatonin atempts to regulate the biological clock. Sleep has a bunch of factors that afect it: how long since last sleep, where person is in circadian cycle, amount of noise/light, age, desire to sleep, cafeine/drugs. Stage 1 brief transiional stage that lasts about 1-7 mins: breathing and heart rate slow, muscle tension and temperature decline, alpha waves give way to lower frequency theta waves, hypnic jerks occur muscular contracions. Stages 2-4: respiraion rate, heart rate, muscle tension and body temp coninue to decline, stage 2. Brief bursts of higher frequency brain waves (sleep spindles)
