Prenatal period: extends from concepion to birth, usually encompassing nine months of pregnancy. Germinal stage: first phase of prenatal development, encompassing the irst two weeks ater concepion. (zygote is creaing through ferilizaion) Placenta: structure that allows oxygen and nutrients to pass into the fetus from the mother"s bloodstream, and bodily wastes to pass out to the mother. (forms during the implantaion phase) Embryonic stage: second stage of prenatal development, lasing from two weeks unil the end of the second month. (most vital organs start to form, called an embryo) Fetal stage: third stage of prenatal development, lasing from two months through birth. (muscles and bones begin to form) Age of viability: age at which a baby can survive in the event of a premature birth. (22-26 weeks usually)
