Document Summary

Circadian rhythm the biological clock; regular bodily rhythms (for example, of temperature and wakefulness) that occur on a 24-hour cycle. Sleep periodic, natural, easily reversible loss of consciousness as distinct from unconsciousness resulting from a coma, general anesthesia, or hibernation. The sleep cycle repeats itself about every 90 minutes. Beta waves the waves associated with day to day wakefulness. Alpha waves the relatively slow brain waves of a relaxed, awake state. Theta waves slower in frequency and greater in amplitude than alpha; seen in the first stages of sleep. Delta waves the large, slow brain waves associated with deep sleep. Marked by slowed breathing and irregular brains waves. Eyes are closed, but it"s easy to wake you up. This phase may last for about 10 minutes. You may experience hallucinations (fleeting images) during this stage, which may later be incorporated into your memories. Nrem 2 marked by periodic sleep spindles bursts of rapid, jagged rhythmic brain-wave activity.
