Conformity: a change in behaviour or belief to accord with others. In western socieies conformity is seen as a bad thing: conformity is given a bad label. In japan it is seen as tolerance, self-control and maturity: serenity. We choose labels to suit out values and judgements. The key is whether your behaviour would be the same with or without the group. Compliance: publicly acing in accord with social pressure while privately disagreeing: comply to reap a reward or avoid a punishment. Acceptance: inward conformity that involves both acing and believing in accord with social pressure.
