Most friendships exist between people of the same gender (even through romantic relationships) Girl report greater satisfaction with same sex relationships than boys do: also higher levels of affection nurturance, trust, security, and closeness. Intimacy is a key characteristic of adolescent friendships especially with girls. Girls report more self disclosure and emotional support. Girls are more likely to have one on one friendships with self disclosure and emotional support. Boys are more likely to have larger, less intimate friendship groups focused on activities like sports and games. Because emotional expression is viewed as a feminine trait, males may think gay men have feminine traits, and associate emotional closeness wit homosexuality. Many women seek the company of other women because many women"s spouses die. Women are more engaged with friendships and social networks and men and are more likely to give and receive emotional support.
