PSYC 107 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Short-Term Memory, Frontal Lobe, Anterograde Amnesia
Document Summary
Memory: the ability to store and retrieve information over a certain period of time. The idea of memory is caused by the experiences that each individual goes through throughout their life. Memory is so complex that it is also very fragile. Memories are made by combining information that is already known with new information that comes in through our different senses. Kind of like following a recipe; improvising along the way; old information with new. The nature of any particular memory depends on the old information already in memory, as well as, depending on the new information that comes through our senses. Semantic judgments: think about the meaning of the words/numbers. Gives off a much better memory than thinking about the sound or appearance. Rhyme judgments: think about the sound of the words/numbers. Visual judgements: think about the appearance of the words/numbers.
