Deductive reasoning relies upon a formal structure that comes in 3 parts. That formal structure is a syllogism, which lays out claims that build upon ea. other to reach a conclusion. 1st part of syllogism is major premises that is statement of a general truth/fact. After major premise, a minor premise, or specific instance of general truth in action, provided taken together, major and minor premises result in 3rd statement, conclusion, which is logical result on both major and minor premises. Categorical syllogism, because it deals w/ minor premises belonging to a category established in major premise.
