Document Summary
Bacteria can regulate the expression of their genes. Bacteria have the same genes, but if we look at individual bacteria or even a colony of bacteria and which genes are being made in the proteins, it turned out that it depends on their environment. Example: galactose and the enzyme galactosidase that breaks it down, so that the bacteria can use it as an energy source. The amount of galactosidase tend to be very low when there is low galactose. When we add galactose so that it can be eaten by the bacteria, it makes lot of galactosidase so that it can digest the galactose. And the way it does this, is that it has a promoter and it have a galactosidase gene. And it also has an operator that is bound by a repressor that is controlled by the amount of galactose feedback (it is the way of sensing how much galactose is present in their environment)
