Skulls with holes: thought people were possessed by evil spirit and in order to get rid of it they needed to drill a hole in the skull. Still people today believe that trepanation is the key to sanity and awakening. So if you wanted to have mental clarity you needed to easy the work of the heart. Hole in skull= relieve pressure in the brain.
