MIMM 214 Lecture 22: TH2 Cells
Document Summary
Note: th2 is classically believed to be yada yada these are actually mostly done by tfh! (follicular helper cells) Originally ppl thought certain regions in the world have higher rates of allergy due to lack of exposure to pathogens. This however is not correct b/c it"s too simple. Now we know that the exposure, or lack of exposure, to some pathogens could increase rate of allergy! No complete consensus, but this is pretty trustworthy: exposure to helminths would increase strength of immune system towards certain pathogens (more th2 activation) Th1: once they are in site of infection, will recognize mhc-peptide on specific cells and act in a specific manner (act directly on the target) Th2: exert their function through secretion of cytokines at the site of infection. Th2 functions make intestinal walls less hospitable for the parasites, so it"s harder for parasites to live there; a way to control helminth infections.
