Business intelligence (bi): the skills, knowldege, technologies, applications and practices used to help a business to acquire a better understanding of the market behaviour nad business context. It employes the coleciton, integration, analysis, interpretation and presentation of business information. Typical bi applications: customer segmentation, propensity to buy, customer profitability, customer attrition, channel optimization, etc. Data warehouse: puts a wide range of operation data from internal and external sources into one place, for utilization by executives, line of business managers and other business analysts. Without the data warehouse you would have to conduct searches in multiplied databases to acquire all the information: database: mainly stores data in tables, serves transaction process. Data warehousing process overview: olap: online transaction process or online analytical processing. Software tools that allow users to create on-demand reports and queries and conduct analysis of data. Although olap was the original word, the definition now matches business analytics as a whole: data mart: different subsets of data.
