EARTHSC 2W03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Covalent Bond, Density, Capillary Action
Document Summary
Etymology: new latin hydrologia, from latin hydr- + -logia -logy. A science dealing with the properties, distribution, and circulation of water on and below the earth"s surface and in the atmosphere. Scientific discipline concerned with the waters of the earth, including their occurrence, distribution, circulation via the hydrological cycle, and interactions with living things. It also deals with the chemical and physical properties of water in all its phases. Hydrology is the study of the movement, distribution, and quality of water throughout earth, and thus addresses both the hydrologic cycle and water resources. A practitioner of hydrology is a hydrologist, working within the fields of either earth or environmental science, physical geography or civil and environmental engineering. Domains of hydrology include hydrometerology, surface hydrology, hydrogeology, drainage basin management and water quality, where water plays the central role. Oceanography and meterology are not included because water is only one of many important aspects.
