Symptoms need to happen for a period of time, consistent with same-aged people, have an impact on ability to function in world. 3-5% of school-aged children: increase in adhd prevalence due to more skilled diagnosis and more accepted by parents. 1/3 of those who require special education have a specific learning disability. 30-65% of those children have a serious emotional disturbance. But, a low number of those with adhd have anything more significant (not over-diagnosing) Characteristics include developmentally inappropriate skills for their age, inattention, impulsiveness, hyperactivity. At least 6 symptoms to have adhd inattentive type. At least 6 symptoms to have adhd hyperactivity and impulsivity type. At least 6 symptoms from each inattentive and hyperactivity/impulsivity to have adhd both type. Difficulty coming to attention and determining what to pay attention to. They are focused by not sure what to pay attention to because so much is going on around them.
