New words can be formed: e. g. hardware and software lead to spyware and malware. Words can take on new meanings: e. g. i have been hacked by the hacker. Can apply old rules to new words: e. g. vape, vaped, vaping. Hierarchical, with each level composed of other sublevels. Pragmatic: real world meaning, how language is used.
