We see the world in terms of meaningful objects. Stimulus projects on retina gives a 2-d representation of different colours and intensities of light. Our perception goes beyond the information given. 3 main ideas: perceptual constancy, the information hitting our retina is constantly changing, perceptual organization of forms, figure/ground separation, gestalt grouping principles, depth perception. Different kinds of neurons have different receptive fields: line orientation, edge detection, centre-surround, direction of movement. Place electrode in animal and present different stimuli.
