Association between an attitude object and an evaluations. Attitudes have 3 components although there are different degrees to these 3 components. Affective component: does our attitude match our behaviour. Behavioural component: person will look a their past behaviour towards an object. Cognitive component: the person considers the cost and benefits associated with the object. Strength of attitudes linked to changed to the level of difficulty to change a persons attitude. The more ambivalence there it is the easier it is to change an attitude. There is some evidence that there is a biological component to attitude although most biologist agree that attitude is mostly learned. Children are rewarded whenever they express a view that is the same as their parents they are rewarded. Observational: people will learn what is and bad based on what they observe in other people.
