IMM250H1 Lecture 10: Lecture 10
Document Summary
Na ve dcs go through the blood and enter the paracortex of the lymph node, the t cells stay there, and the b cells go to the follicle. B cells can become either plasma cells or memory cells or will die by apoptosis. Plasma cells make a ton of antibodies that will stay with the host. Memory b cells live in tissue bed for long and can enter lymph nodes through afferent lymphatics. Hev brings the t cell through the blood. Autoimmune disorders: 8% of the population suffers from some form of autoimmune disease, mostly affects women, organ-specific diseases vs systemic autoimmune diseases, organ: type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, systemic: rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus. Positive selection is when the thymocyte is checked for a low affinity to mhc and self-peptides. If during positive selection, there is no affinity for mhc, the thymocyte dies via apoptosis. Negative selection happens after positive selection in the medulla.
