Document Summary

We all essentially start out the same as infants so how do we become such different adults: erikson"s 8 stages of social development; development of how we interact w/other ppl. If you"re not the things on the left of the chart the result is the negative things on. But not every culture is directed toward the goals on the right; stages are based the right ie. trust vs mistrust heavily on western ideology. It"s not a universal model; there"s a western bias in studying psych. From ages 2-3 toddlers are developing their sense of self and autonomy wearing pink or yellow sweater. Western cultures try to encourage this by giving their children choices; Child restraint is considered intrusive b/c you"re no allowing child to develop own freedom. Chinese culture make choices for the children w/o intervention of parent one is considered insensitive. Children develop to be tentative which is adaptive to their environment.
