Document Summary

But when you have billions together, then you have a person: sensory neurons take information from the world and sends signals to the brain. They translate the objective energy of the world into neural impulses: the brain brings all the information together and generates a perception. As neurotransmitters get picked up by the dendrites, they set off a chemical reaction. Excitatory signals add positive charges to the neuron (depolarize). The neuron has to get depolarized enough so as to pass the threshold so it can fire through a net excitatory signal. Anit-anxiety meds help gaba bind more effectively to post-synaptic receptors: acetylcholine (ach) it does different things depending on where it is. You look at the peripheral nervous system (pns) where it affects muscle motor control. In the central nervous system (cns) it is involved in a lot of higher cognitive functions. Learning, memory, plasticity: norepinephrine is a regulator of our arousal and alertness, serotonin in charge of mood.
