Canadian youth are also facing problems with obesity. Specifically, males (12-17) more than 50% are overweight. Obesity & multiple organ complications: obesity is mainly caused by over consumption, obese individuals often have lower metabolism as well, dysregulation of lipolysis in adipocytes (due to caloric excess & Can lead to multiple organ complications, with the central cause being elevated serum lipids inactivity) = increased flux of fatty acids to the liver: deposition of lipid in multiple tissues (steatosis) vascular disease hypertension. Elevated serum lipids affects the: pancreas type ii diabetes, beta-cell failure, skeletal muscle insulin resistance, heart heart disease and heart failure, vasculature vascular disease hypertension. Liver insulin resistance & non-alcoholic fatty liver. Metabolic syndrome: metabolic syndrome = obesity (abdominal) with at least 2 of the following: Low hdl (good cholesterol: high serum triglycerides, hypertension, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia = high serum triglycerides & low hdl (good cholesterol)
