A psychological and or psychological need for a drug to maintain a sense of well- being or avoid withdrawal symptoms. Occurs when larger doses of a drug are required over time to produce the same physical or psychological effect that was originally achieved by a smaller dose. A variety of physical and psychological symptom"s that habitual drug users experience when they discontinue drug use. Eg. , quitting long term drinking withdrawal symptoms include shaking, reduced sense of self-worth, etc. Alcohol use and abuse: alcohol is a psychoactive drug (a depressant) which lowers the activity level of the central nervous system. 3 4 drinks sensory perception. 5 6 drinks signs of intoxication. Acute alcoholics: have trouble controlling drinking (often all day) reschedule their time around drinking often hiding the alcohol from others.
