17 views2 pages

Document Summary

Using sex to sell for products that often have nothing to do with sex. Not as effective as we might have thought it was. Top 100 most lucrative ads, only 8 of them use sex. Current generation is used to seeing sexuality in advertisements. Ex: axe commercial, mow the lawn razor commercial for women"s bikini lines. Representation of gender - objectifies men and women as they use a specific group to target and appeal to the opposite specific group. Men being sexualized is an extremely different and more positive image. Using sexual imagery to increase revenue (ex: 1. 5 - 77 million in 7 years) Using sex to sell has become so commonplace and everyone uses it so its far less effective nowadays ex: playboy claiming to stop having fully nude models to leave more to the imagination and increase readership. Since there has been men buying, there have been ads using women as the bait.
