General social survey (gss: established in 1985, main objective: gather data on current, emerging social trends, different theme every year. Theft of person property (something stolen while you are not present) Truancy (supposed to be in school and you"re not) A sub-field of criminology that focuses on the relationship between: victims and perpetrators, victims and the criminal justice system. Individuals who experience loss, injury or hardship for any reason. Crime victims: above as a result of an illegal act. Direct/primary: experiences criminal act and its consequences first hand. Indirect/secondary: family and those who suffer emotionally or financially but are not immediately involved or physically injured. Women are more likely than men to be victims of sexual assault and theft. Men are more likely to be victims of crimes such as robbery and assault. Women are slightly more victimized than men: gender violence. Prior to 1983, canadian law did not recognize rape within marriage.
