Document Summary
Structure of the labour movement: management: represent the owners, government. Provincial matter, every province has its own laws. Depending on where your business is located and as a result what law prevails. But if you have to cross a boundary in the course of work the provincial law no longer prevails, the clc does: union: represents the workers. Union structure: local: the actual workers that belong to the parent union but in a specific location (branch of union) that represents the worker in each location. Each union will have a number of locals within the specific location that are members of the union. Example: unifor (largest private sector union in canada: parent: step in and help in negotiation. Strike fund control, help out with finances and funding locals. Final authority, let the membership do what they need to do but when they cross a boundary they will stop them.
