Document Summary

Lecture 11 animal physiology: rapid changes in bv and bp regulated mainly by cardiovascular system, long-term regulation involves the cardiovascular system and renal (kidney) system. Pressor centre increases symp. activity (leads to increase in bp causes vasoconstriction and increases tpr) Depressor centre increases para. activity (acts on pacemaker- decrease in bp) symp. nerves innervate all blood vessels except precap. sphincters. Parasymp. only regulates the nerves that innervate genitalia and nerves that go to brain (doesn"t play major role in regulating peripheral circulation) When cvcc activated, increases symp activity to the heart; increases. Also increases symp. activity to blood vessels; vasoconstriction: baroreceptors increase in tpr; increase in bp. Also increase parasymp. activity to the heart; decrease in heart rate. Not important for long-term regulation of bp. Vascular tone = degree of constriction of blood vessels. Mainly act on alpha-1 ars; decrease in tpr; decrease in bp.
