Factors that can influence the size of gender differences: Weakness- people may drop out, expensive, takes a long time: box score or counting. Score given to each gender based on assessment. Not reliable - doesn"t say how many people in the study: meta analysis. Compares a whole group of studies and compares their effect size to get a overall effect size. Problem - depends on the types of study used - to prevent this - they randomly select the studies. 0. 13 effect size - not a significant difference. Specific differences - men more likely to help out when the situation is dangerous, when a specific skill is required - changing tire. Both men and women equally likely to mail a stamped letter that appeared to be lost - doesn"t require a specific gender role. Altruistic behaviour - behaviour that helps someone who really needs it without expecting something back and where helping could be dangerous.
