SOC 603 Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - The Question of Gender.docx
Document Summary
Women make up 2% of the top business ceos in the world. Women wages are still not equivalent to men"s, and thus they are still dependent on men"s income. In almost all parts of the world, men are more likely to have paid jobs. Persons are instantly recognized as men/women, and lives are based around this. This arrangement seems as part of the natural order of nature, and thus, statuses as homosexuality seems unnatural. Events such as the oscars and super bowl help create gender differences by exemplary displays of masculinity and femininity. Thus, being a man or woman is not a pre-determined state, but instead a becoming, condition under construction. Development of gender identity: one is not born masculine/feminine.
