Document Summary

Chapter 10: prompting and transfer of stimulus control. Prompts are used to increase the likelihood that a person will engage in the correct behaviour at the correct time. Prompts are stimuli given before or during the performance of a behaviour they help the behaviour occur so that the teacher ca n provide reinforcement. Verbal prompts telling the person how to do the behaviour. Gestural prompt motioning the behaviour to show the person. Modeling prompt showing the person how to do the behaviour. Physical prompt physically guiding the person through the correct behaviour. Fading is one way to transfer stimulus control from the prompts to the sd. Gradually remove the prompts until the behaviour is occurring in the presence of the sd w/o any supplemental stimuli. Teaching isn"t complete until prompts are completely faded and the behaviour is under the stimulus control of the natural sd. Engaging in the correct behaviour w/o prompts is the goal of prompting and fading.
