In which they acquire thoughts, feelings and behaviours appropriate to their positions in society. To interact with others, we must learn the social rules. The norms of a society/culture which tell us those behaviors are acceptable and which are unacceptable. Self: a process in which we construct a sense of who we are through interaction with others. Gender socialization: learning expectations about how to behave related to one"s gender. Doing gender is a social process in which individuals are held accountable to the social rules or norms associated with being a man or a woman in society. Racial socialization: learning about one"s racial or ethnic identity in a given culture.
