The psychological models emphasize the importance of mental functioning, social experiences, and learning, histories in trying to explain the causes of abnormal behaviors. The sociocultural model emphasizes the role of social and cultural influences on the frequency, diagnosis, and conception of psychosocial disorders. Some sets of syndromes, called culture-bound syndromes, tend to be limited to specific cultures. Emphasis on multiple causation is evident in the biopychosocial model, which incorporates biological (medical model) factor along with psychological and sociocultural (social) factors. Diagnosis is the process of recognizing the presence of a disorder and naming it by using an existing classification system. A major purpose of diagnosis is to make predictions.
