Social psychology - scientific study of the feelings, thoughts, and behaviours of individuals in social situations. Participants shocked another man in step-by-step 15v intervals. Was told it was a scientific experiment. Never been told to seriously harm another individual. Milgram stressed step-by-step nature of procedure was crucial (e. g. if participants didn"t quit at 225 volts, then why stop at 255?) Seminarians as samaritans experiment by john darley and daniel batson. Some seminarians are told to rush and others to take time, both encounter man in need of help. Despite, internal factors (all are seminarians), only those that helped were those that were told they had time (external factors) Fundamental attribution error = failure to recognize situational influences and tendency to overemphasize dispositions (inner factors) Channel factors = situational circumstances that appear unimportant on the surface but can have great consequences for behaviour - facilitating it, blocking it, or guiding it in a particular way.
