Social psychology: reality is subjective, a product of our construal of the social world. Social me = parts of self-knowledge that are derived from social relationships. Our sense of who are is forged in large part by our interaction with others. People focus their attention on themselves in a deliberate attempt to enhance self- understanding. We are continually telling a story about ourselves as we live our lives called self-narratives". Self narratives are used to integrate our many goals, to make sense of conflict and to explain how we change over time. Our understanding of the social world, including ourselves, in often shaped by construal processes. Gradually, the chimp became aware it was reflection of themselves. Puts red paint on chimp"s foreheads when he is asleep and then the chimp sees the mirror. He measures how often chimp touched head with no ink and then measured when there was ink.
