PSYB04H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: Random Assignment, Intelligence Quotient, Smart People
Document Summary
Wanted to know if colour red would a ect people"s performance on academic tasks. Learned that students do better when they have approach orientation (they try to succeed) rather than avoidance orientation (try not to fail) Thought that red would cause them to withdraw e ort and perform worse. Recruited 71 students to lab; 5 minute test and in some booklets, id number was written in red or black; randomly assigned. Students in red group solved fewer anagrams so colour caused di erence in performance; did a few more variations of test but got same results each time. 68 students into kitchen lab during lunch; groups of 16-18. Results showed they took more pasta from large serving bowl than medium one and large bowl people ate more than medium bowl. Experiment researchers manipulated at least one variable and measured another; can be in lab or anywhere else where manipulation is possible.
