Personality: a characteristic pattern of feeling, thinking and behaving that is unique to each individual. Usually used when trying to figure out people you know: nomothetic approach: examine personality in large groups of people. Allows psychologists to examine what types of people are more or less likely to engage in certain behaviours. Personality traits: habitual patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviours; how a person is most of the time. Helps predict how a person may behave in different situations. Gordon allport tallied 18,000 words that be used to describe traits. Barnum effect= when a person believes that a personality test actually describes who the, even though it a(cid:272)tually does(cid:374)"t. This happens because statements are fairly general and can be applied to a lot of people.
