The potential effectiveness is higher when it is a smaller firm typically. It is a fundamental culture change, so it would be hard to shift the culture like that. Considerations: may not always be best motivator for all behavior. Don"t ignore the potential motivational power of money. Do recognize potential negative side effects of a focus on monetary incentives. Different forms of motivation (represent levels of independent autonomous motivation). Amotivation: do not pursue behavior, success is unlikely. External regulation: do activity to obtain reward/ avoid punishment. Identified regulation: do activity because you identify with its value. Integrated regulation: do activity because it is part of your sense of self: habitual. Instrinsic motivation: doing activity because it is inherently satisfying. Introjected, and external: controlled motivation (inconsistent goal setting, etc. )
