Personality = characteristics on which people differ that are relatively stable across situations and over time. Self-esteem = the degree to which a person has a positive evaluation of himself/herself. Neuroticism decreases greatly for women with age; relatively stable for men (mildly sexist ) Data collected began in the 1950s, therefore environment was very different from what we believe today. For most criteria, 50%+ depends on skills & abilities that you can learn. With effort, you may be able to change personality traits. Abilities concern how well people deal w set of tasks; may or may not be connected with typical behaviour. Crystallized intelligence = what you have learned from past experience, including formal education. Fluid intelligence = person"s ability to detect relationships between stimuli independent of practice or instructions with those relationships. Impossible to make good decisions when feeling emotions.
