Association areas: receive input from the sensory areas and lower parts of the brain, and
are involved in cognition (perception, thought and decision making).
The Human Nervous System
Central Nervous System: Brain, spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System: Nerves
What is the brain made of?
Meninges (protects the brain)
Blood vessels (feed the brain and get rid of waste. Arteries carry fresh blood to feed the
brain. Veins carry ‘used’ blood away from the brain)
Cerebrospinal fluid (cushions the brain)
Neurons (information messenger) and Glia (support, protection, nourishment repair,
