Document Summary

Recall: cotranslational translocation gets the protein into the er. Transport between rer and cis-golgi (dxe, kdel and kkxx protein sorting signals) Trafficking from trans-golgi network to lysosomes (m6p sorting signal) Overview of secretory and endocytic pathways of protein sorting. Important to know that as proteins move through here, modifications occur. Recall: signal peptide guides the translating protein to the er and it finishes translation there. When protein is made in the er, it will bud off in vesicles which will then fuse with the golgi. When proteins make it to the top of the golgi they are secreted or sorted to lysosomes (important for protein breakdown/degradation) The golgi is a series of flat, disk-like structures, cisternae, no ribosomes. Three types of cisternae (cis, medial, trans) Cgn (cis): faces the er membrane (concave) Vesicles at cisterna tips fuse or pinch off. The golgi communicates with the er all the time using vesicles.
