Selection- process of choosing among individuals who have been recruited to fill existing or projected job openings. Begins when a pool of applications has submitted their resumes or completed application forms as a result of the recruiting process. Hr is the most important factor in determining whether a firm is going to survive and meeting objectives. Successful candidates must fit with the strategic direction of the organization. Poor selection results in unacceptable performance, unmet objectives, and selection process must begin again. Adoption and use of an appropriate selection process is often the problem. Not always able to have a large pool of recruits: skills, location, environment. High ratio may be an indication the job ad is too vague, need digital screening. Selection ratio- ratio of applicants hired to total number of applicants available. Low ratio may result in lower-quality recruits; better to restart process.
